Coquitlam Express to Host Fourth Annual Autism Acceptance Game in Partnership with Canucks Autism Network

The Coquitlam Express are proud to announce their fourth annual Autism Acceptance Game, taking place on January 12th at 3:00PM at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex. This special event, in partnership with the Canucks Autism Network (CAN), aims to create a welcoming and sensory-friendly environment for fans on the autism spectrum and their families.

This year’s game will feature unique jerseys designed by local artist and Autism Advocate, Lucas Gates, who will also serve as the In-Game Host. Gates’ designs reflect themes of acceptance and inclusion, embodying the spirit of the event. The jerseys will be worn by the players during the game.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Canucks Autism Network for our fourth Annual Autism Acceptance Game,” said Tali Campbell, General Manager of the Coquitlam Express. “We are committed to fostering an inclusive atmosphere where all families can enjoy the excitement of hockey in a sensory-friendly setting.”

The Autism Acceptance Game will feature adapted game experiences, including lowered sound of music, quieter areas for those who may need a break from the noise of the rink, sensory kits with fidget toys and noise-cancelling headphones, as well as trained staff on site to assist families throughout the event.

“At Canucks Autism Network, we believe that every community should take action to include and support individuals on the autism spectrum,” said CAN CEO, Britt Andersen. “We’re proud to partner with the Coquitlam Express, who continue to demonstrate their commitment to making hockey a more accessible, welcoming, and inclusive experience for every fan.”

Families are invited to join in the festivities, which will include interactive activities, giveaways, and opportunities to connect with fellow attendees. The Coquitlam Express are dedicated to making this event a memorable experience for everyone in attendance.
