Coquitlam fall in a hard fought overtime contest

Coquitlam finish their two game road trip with 3 of a possible 4 points, and will play next in their home opener on September 26th.

Early on it became apparent that the Chiefs were going for a “shoot everything” approach, laying lots of rubber on Charles-Antoine Girard from the first whistle until the last buzzer.

Chase Valliant struck first in the opening period, but the Express lead dissolved just 54 seconds later when Latvian forward Kristers Obuks answered back.

The next two periods saw each team score once apiece, with Chase Valliant notching his second goal of the game only for Chiefs rookie Brady Keith to bury a rebound minutes later.

The third period was arguably Coquitlam’s best, despite surrendering an early goal, they dominated the next 10 minutes of action until Chase Valliant scored yet again, his second hat trick in as many games. Two penalties cost Coquitlam their momentum, but a still undefeated penalty kill held strong to force Overtime.

OT was back and forth, with Nishaan Parmar hitting both a post AND a crossbar in one shift, until an incredibly lucky bounce for Chilliwack deflected off Express forward Michael Munroe and into the net.

The Express finished the game being outshot 49-19, but despite that kept it close the whole way, and will look to bounce back on home ice next Friday.

Next game is against the Cowichan Valley Capitals, broadcaster Zach Clarke will have the call!
