Sept. 26 – The Coquitlam Express are proud to announce they have acquired defenceman John Saunders from the Whitecourt Wolverines of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. The Wolverines will be receiving future considerations as compensation.
Saunders is a '94 born Calgary native. In 34 games previously played with Merritt in the BCHL, the 6'2", 190 pounder posted 2 goals and 2 assists to go along with 42 penalty minutes.
"I am very excited to get back to the BCHL with the Express. I'm fortunate to be joining a team that appears to be on the rise!" said Saunders when he arrived in Coquitlam.
Coach Wolff explained, "We wanted to add a stay at home defenceman with grit and compete. We think John brings that to the table."
Saunders will make his debut tomorrow night against the Prince George Spruce Kings. Puck drop is 7:00pm at the Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex.
