Express complete three-team trade

The Coquitlam Express have completed a three-team trade with the Cowichan Valley Capitals that sees Shane LaVelle, 2001-born forward heading to the Cowichan Valley Capitals, Owen Simpson 2003-born defenseman heading to the Penticton Vees and Luke Vardy 2003-born defenseman heading to the Coquitlam Express.

Vardy comes to the Express after playing the start of the season with the Penticton Vees and prior to that with St. Andrew’s College during the 2019/20 season and was set to suit up for the program again in the 2020/21 season before the season couldn’t get going due to COVID.

The 6’1″, 185-pound defenseman posted nine goals and 21 assists for 30 points in 59 games while adding 76 penalty minutes.

The Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia native has had leadership experience in his young career as he was set to be an assistant captain with St. Andrew’s for the coming season while also representing his home province with an ‘A’ on his sweater at the Canada Winter Games for Team Nova Scotia in 2018/19.

The Express would like to also wish Shane LaVelle the best in Cowichan Valley.
