Express Derailed in Wenatchee, Lose 6-1 to Wild

by Eddie Gregory

The Coquitlam Express come home after splitting their two game Interior division road trip following a 6-1 loss to the Wenatchee Wild Saturday night.

The hosts weren’t very hospitable opening the scoring on a shorthanded tally from Josh Arnold just 2:03 into the game.
It was 3-0 Wild after 20 minutes as they scored two more goals in the first period 41 seconds apart from Matt Gosiewski and Matt Dorsey.
The teams traded goals in the second period. Captain Troy Robillard scored his first of the season on the powerplay less than a minute after a goal from Blake Bargar of the Wild and it was 4-1 Wild after 40 minutes.
Wenatchee had a considerable edge in shots all night long. They capped off the win in the 3rd period with goals from Brandon Koch and Josh Arnold’s second of the game. The Wild outshot the Express 31-14 and handed Clay Stevenson just his second loss of the season and snapping his personal 6 game winning streak.
It was a tough night for an banged up Express squad who struggled to find any consistency at both ends of the ice.
The Express return home Friday night when they host  the BCHL’s leading scorer Alex Newhook and the Victoria Grizzlies. That is followed by a Sunday afternoon visit from the Surrey Eagles.
