Coquitlam begin a back-to-back against two Coastal West division opponents in the Powell River Kings and the Nanaimo Clippers. With the Coastal East division shaping up to be a very close battle, the Express need all the points they can get versus out of division opponents.
Powell River come in with a 2-2 record, having played all 4 games on home ice. The Kings boast some red hot rookies, including defenceman Jackson Schaefer who leads all rookie D-men in goals.
This game marks the first of a grueling stretch of schedule for the Kings, who play Coquitlam tonight, then Langley tomorrow, and end in Surrey the day after. Outside of their home opener, Powell River has kept every game close until the final whistle, but this is their first meeting of the year against Lower Mainland opposition.
As for the Express, some major roster overhauls have happened since they last took the ice, with Anthony Ip, Matt Hines, and Hunter Ashton all departing Coquitlam. The new additions are four defencemen, Tristan Payne, Trevor Oishi, Matthew Tarlton, and Julian Revel. The former three all draw into tonight’s lineup.
