The Coquitlam Express Hockey Club has announced the signing of 2007-born forward Simon Ward from the Abbotsford ID Camp held this past weekend.
Ward, 16 years old played for the St. George’s U18 team last season where he tallied 38 points in 30 games, 12 goals and 26 assists already has some BCHL experience having affiliated with the Victoria Grizzlies in the 2022-23 season playing in two games. He was drafted by the Vancouver Giants in the WHL but has chosen the NCAA path.
“I have been able to track Simon for the last three seasons and this past season he has taken a massive step to becoming a dominate hockey player,” said Tali Campbell, General Manager of the Coquitlam Express “In simple words Simon is a man at 16 years old, he is a relentless force on the ice, with a mix of skill, competitiveness, and physicality.”
Ward along with 150+ other hopefuls took the ice last weekend vying for a spot on the Coquitlam Express and from the first day of camp Simon stood out to all Express staff as someone who could play in the BCHL.
“I am so incredibly proud to have this opportunity to sign and play with the Coquitlam Express,” said Simon Ward “when discussing options with my family and advisor, our true hope was that I would end up playing for such a respected organization and Coquitlam was at the very top of out list. I have watched countless of games at the Train Station with my father from the time I was 7 years old, so it means just that much more I now get to play in that rink. I am so appreciative of ownership, Tali Campbell, Jeff Wagner and all the wonderful staff I have had the chance to meet and I am looking forward to putting in the hard work to be prepared for the upcoming season!”
