FINAL: Spruce Kings Stun Express With Late Goal

The Prince George Spruce Kings have defeated the Coquitlam Express 4-3 in BCHL action.

It was the annual Teddy Bear Toss Night at the Train Station. As the Express got set for their 1st of 6 meetings with the Prince George Spruce Kings this season. Both team would see some early chances. But it’d be the Express opening the scoring as George Stavrianeas would be this years Teddy Bear Toss goal scorer. Sending the fur flying at 13:46 of the 1st period. Prince George would answer back a few minutes later. Thanks to an unassisted goal from Carter Hesselgrave. But the Express would answer back just 36 seconds later, as Cole Bieksa potted his 3rd of the season to give Coquitlam a 2-1 lead that’d they’d take into the intermission.

It would be the goalies standing tall in the 2nd period. As Ryder Green would stop all 6 Express shots. And Ryan Parker would stop 8 of 9, as Ryan Wachtel added a late marker to tie the game up at 2-2. Sending the game tied into the 3rd.

Coquitlam would look to steer the game back in their favour heading into the final frame. Both teams would see early powerplay opportunities but fail to convert. River Arnason would give Prince George their first lead of the game at 11:39 with his 4th of the season. But it’d once again be a quick response from Coquitlam. As Carson Lesiuk would pot his 1st as a member of the Express to tie the game up less than a minute later. The Express would see another late powerplay but once again couldn’t find a game breaking goal. With almost no time left on the clock, and overtime looking imminent. Marcus Lougheed would score a buzzer beater and win the game 4-3 for Prince George.

Coquitlam returns to action tomorrow. As they make their first trip to Alberni Valley to take on the Bulldogs.
