FINAL: Express Hold on For Win Over Bulldogs

The Prince George Spruce Kings have defeated the Coquitlam Express 4-3 in BCHL action.

The Express took to Alberni Valley for the first time this season as they took on the Bulldogs for their 2nd meeting this season. Coquitlam would get the opening goal at 9:14 of the 1st as George Stavrianeas potted his first of the night and 9th on the season. Maddox Osaka would look sharp in the 1st, but a late powerplay goal from Wyatt Davis tied the game up 1-1 heading into the middle frame.

It’d take another half of the period, but it’d once again be the Express scoring at 9 minute mark. As some sweet moves would get Tyler Chiovetti his 1st goal with the Express and 5th of the season giving Coquitlam a 2-1 lead. It’d then be Shaenen Long looking to spark some momentum into the contest as he’d drop the gloves with Samuel Leonard. Coquitlam took that jolt, and George Stavrianeas added his 2nd of the night to give Coquitlam a 3-1 lead. Osaka stopped all 14 shots he faced in the middle frame, as the Express took the 2 goal lead into the intermission.

It’d be another game with Coquitlam looking to close out a lead after 2 period which have been giving them some troubles as of late. The Bulldogs were able to cut into the lead early as Brandon Gill scored his 4th of the season on the powerplay to make it a 3-2 game. Maddox Osaka would shut the door for the remainder of the 3rd. The Bulldogs got a late powerplay chance, but a 30 save performance from the Coquitlam netminder guided them to a 3-2 victory at the dawg pound.

Coquitlam returns to action Friday, December 19th for their second meeting at the Chilliwack Coliseum with the Chiefs.
