The Langley Rivermen have defeated the Coquitlam Express 6-3 in BCHL action.
The Express made their way to George Preston Arena for the second meeting with the Rivermen this weekend, and the final meeting between the two teams this season. As Coquitlam looked for a big bounce back game after dropping last nights contest 9-5. The Express would open the scoring in this one. As George Stavrianeas picked up his 20th goal of the season on the powerplay to make it 1-0 Coquitlam. It wouldn’t take long for the Express to double their lead. As Nolan Dupont crashed the net off a nice set up from Justin Ivanusec. And just like that it was 2-0 Coquitlam. The Rivermen answered back late in the 1st. As Zach Benayon picked up goal 29 on the season to make it 2-1.
Just like last night, it’d be Langley taking over in the 2nd. Harshaan Kaila, Zach Benayon and Sam Allaby got on the board for Langley in the middle frame. Coquitlam saw two seperate chances on the powerplay, but all of their 17 shots in the 2nd were turned aside by Rivermen goaltender Eric Young. Making it a 4-2 lead for Langley after 2 periods.
Langley would get 2 more goals in the 3rd. Jordan Geike continued to find the back of the net this weekend. Picking up his 9th of the season and 4th goal of this 2 game split. A little later it’d be Makaio Van Tassel firing home a one timer to make it a 6-2 game. Coquitlam looked to get back in this one, Nolan Flynn would find a late goal. But Langley held on to take this one 6-3.
The Express return to action at the Train Station Friday, March 6th to take on the Prince George Spruce Kings.
