The Chilliwack Chiefs have defeated the Coquitlam Express 6-1 in BCHL action.
The Express set out for the Chilliwack Coliseum to face the Chiefs for their last game before the Christmas Break. The Chiefs would get a hot start out of the gate. As Nico Grabas opened the scoring 3:27 into the game to give Chilliwack an early lead. The Express saw a powerplay opportunity, but failed to convert. As it’d be all Chiefs in the 1st period. As Dustin Renas, Connor Dick and Vladimir Laptev all got on the board. As the Chiefs would lead 4-0 after the opening frame.
Coquitlam entered the 2nd period with their biggest deficit after 20 minutes of the season. And they’d be able to keep the Chiefs offence at bay for the first half of the period. Nate Crema got Coquitlam on the scoresheet at 5:49. As his 8th of the season would look to give the Express some life. They’d be unable to find another marker. And the Chiefs took advantage and would reinstate their lead off the 8th of the season from Reece Shaw. The Express got a late opportunity on the powerplay to cut into the lead, but would be denied. As the Chiefs took a 5-1 lead into the 3rd period.
Business picked up on the physical side in the 3rd. As there’d be 26 total penalty minutes between the two teams. The Express looked to battle back and cut into the Chiefs lead. But were unable to find an answer back. Chilliwack capitalized on a late powerplay opportunity making it a 6-1 game. And they’d close it out, handing the Express their second loss at the Chilliwack Coliseum this season.
Coquitlam returns to action at the Train Station tomorrow. December 20th, for the annual Score for Cancer Night. As they take on the Langley Rivermen
