The Surrey Eagles have defeated the Coquitlam Express 4-2 in BCHL action.
The Express returned to the Train Station for their first home game of 2026. As they looked to build off of their 2 wins in Powell River last weekend. Maddox Osaka made his first start at the Train Station this season. But it’d b the Eagles who would strike first off the 2nd of the season from Artyom Akhmadullin. Coquitlam shortly saw themselves shorthanded but were able to get it back to 5 on 5. The Express searched for the tying marker. But Surrey would add to their 1st period lead. As Danny Buckley potted his first of the season. Surrey would take their 2-0 lead into the 1st intermission.
Coquitlam came out in the 2nd looking to get on the board. And it’d take them just 3:41 to do it. As George Stavrianeas remained red hot for Coquitlam. Tallying his 14th on the season off a tip in to bring Coquitlam back within 1. The Express then had a golden opportunity to tie the game. As they’d be awarded a powerplay. But they’d fail to convert and the Eagles added a shorthanded goal courtesy of Lucas Busch to make it 3-1 Surrey. Coquitlam killed off 2 big penalties following the Busch goal to keep the game in reach. It’d then be Kim Elfving getting the Express back within 1 again. As he’d finish off a give and go feed to make it 3-2.
That lead into a big third period at the Train Station, as Coquitlam searched for the tying goal. Maddox Osaka would do what he could to keep the Express within a goal. But Surrey kept pushing and found another off the 3rd of the season from Max Davidson. Coquitlam pushed late for a goal to help steer them back into the game. But Finn Marshall would stop all 19 shots faced in the 3rd period as the Eagles held on for a 4-2 win.
Coquitlam returns to action Sunday, January 11th as they have a rematch with the Eagles at South Surrey Arena.
