FINAL: Express Drop Game 5 in Chilliwack

The Chilliwack Chiefs have defeated the Coquitlam Express 3-2 in BCHL Playoff action.

This first round series matchup met for a crucial game 5 from the Chilliwack Coliseum, as the Express looked to avoid playoff elimination. The Chiefs were off to a hot start as Dustin Renas opened the scoring from mid-air 6 minutes into the 1st period to make it 1-0 for the Chiefs. There were hard fought battles for the rest of the period but no results, leaving Chiefs up 1-0 after 20 minutes.

Coquitlam found themselves on the powerplay early in the 2nd. And the powerplay performed but not enough as Chiefs stayed up on the scoreboard. But just over 2 minutes later, Georgios Stavrianeas tied up for the Express 4:22 into the 2nd. The Express would take a penalty at 14:17 putting the Chiefs on the powerplay in which they would benefit from. Nico Grabas would score just 30 seconds into the man advantage. This game would head to the 3rd period with the Chiefs up 2-1. It was anyones game in this 3rd as the Express looked to keep their season alive. Georgios Stavrianeas tied the game just 38 seconds into the 3rd. The Express would take a penalty with 2:12 in the 3rd, but the penalty kill came up big to keep the game tied and send us to overtime.

In overtime, it was a slow start but ultimately the Chiefs would score the game winning goal at 3:08, sending them to the second round and ending the Coquitlam Express season.
