FINAL: Express Score 5 in 3rd to Topple Eagles

The Coquitlam Express have defeated the Surrey Eagles 6-3 in BCHL action.

Coquitlam got set to wrap up their home and home weekend with the Surrey Eagles, as the teams shifted to South Surrey Arena. Coquitlam was looking for a big performance out of tonight. With the likes of James Odyniec, Cole Bishop, Nolan Flynn, Nolan Dupont and Luke Pfoh (injury) all out of the lineup. The Express wasted no time getting injected into the game. As George Stavrianeas scored just 25 seconds into the contest. Giving the Express a 1-0 lead and Stavrianeas his team leading 15th goal of the season. The bad blood would boil over from Friday’s game. As the 1st period saw 24 total minutes in penalties. It’d be the Eagles taking advantage of the penalties. As finding themselves on a powerplay. Lucas Biros would pot his 1st career BCHL goal to tie the game. 1-1 would be the score after 20 minutes.

With the 2nd beginning tied. Either side would look for the game breaker. Coquitlam held the bulk of offensive opportunities in the 2nd period. But it’d be the Eagles being the lone team finding the back of the net in the middle frame. As Dryden Kuramoto snuck one past Ryan Parker on a breakaway to make it 2-1 Eagles late in the 2nd. And they’d hold onto the lead heading into the 3rd.

It was another big third period for Coquitlam against Surrey this weekend. And when the puck dropped. The Express turned it on. Kamyl Chemrouk got things started at 2:20 as he’d pot his 9th of the season and 1st as a member of the Express. Tying the game up 2-2. A few minutes later it’d then be George Stavrianeas giving the Express a 3-2 lead with his 16th. 46 seconds later Michael Munroe got his 2nd goal in 3 games to make it 4-2 Coquitlam. Then just 2:01 after that Kamyl Chemrouk would grab his 2nd on the night, and just like that it was 5-2 Coquitlam. Tyler Chiovetti would add his 8th on the season to make it 6-2. After the offensive explosion Coquitlam looked to bring it home. But the Eagles would strike one more time. As Devon Mahil grabbed his first BCHL to cut the lead to 6-3. But Coquitlam would hold on as Ryan Parker would make 22 saves on 25 shots at the Express take it 6-3. The Express along with the rest of the league now look ahead to the 2026 BCHL All-Star Break.

Coquitlam returns to action Friday, January 23rd as they host the Chilliwack Chiefs at the Train Station. As the Express celebrate the 2014 Fred Page Cup Champion team.
