FINAL: Express Top Kings To Sweep Weekend Series

The Coquitlam Express have defeated the Powell River Kings 5-1 in BCHL action.

The Express wrapped up their double header to kick off 2026 against the Powell River Kings. As Coquitlam looked to complete the weekend sweep. Both teams saw powerplays in the 1st. As the Express cashed in on their 2nd powerplay chance of the period from the 7th on the year from Nolan Flynn. Coquitlam wouldn’t waist any time adding on. As Luke Pfoh would snipe a short side shot to make it a 2-0 Express game. A lead they’d take to the dressing room after 20 minutes.

It’d be an early goal just 58 seconds in from the Express to start the period. As Nate Crema danced in past all 5 Kings defenders to make it 3-0 Express early into the 2nd. The Kings saw another chance on the man advantage but Coquitlam was able to kill it off. Thanks in part to the 12 saves made in the middle frame by Maddox Osaka. Helping the Express hold onto their 3-0 lead heading into the 3rd.

Coquitlam entered the 3rd looking to wrap up the weekend with all 4 points available. But Powell River began to push back. As Ryan Hedley scored his 7th on the season shorthanded to cut it down to a 3-1 game. They’d also follow up with another goal, but it’d be waved off after review. Allowing the Express to hold onto their 2 goal lead. Later in the period they’d be able to build on it. As Tyler Chiovetti rushed it end to end and found the back of the net to make it 4-1 Express. Michael Munroe added the empty netter, while Maddox Osaka finished with 27 saves. As the Express hold on for a 5-1 win.

Coquitlam returns to action at the Train Station Friday, January 9th as they host the Surrey Eagles for the first game of 2026 at the Train Station
