The Langley Rivermen have defeated the Coquitlam Express 9-5 in BCHL action.
It was Pride Night at the Train Station as the Express met up with the Langley Rivermen. Coquitlam got the ball rolling early in this one as Cole Bishop would open the scoring 6:14 into the game with his 16th goal on the season. It was an offensive explosion for Coquitlam in the opening 20. Getting goals from James Odyniec, Michael Munroe and George Stavrianeas all chipping in goals in the opening frame as Coquitlam led big after the 1st, up 4-0.
Coquitlam would outshoot Langley 14-6 in the 2nd period, but it’d be a goal explosion from the Rivermen in the 2nd period to turn the tables. Jordan Geike would pot 2 while Sam Allaby pitched in on the other as the Rivermen closed the gap in the middle frame. Leaving the Express with a 4-3 lead heading into the 3rd period.
The Rivermen would turn this game on its head in the 3rd. Kicking things off with a penalty shot goal from Parker Forlin to tie the game. Just about 2 minutes later Makaio Van Tassel gave the Rivermen their first lead on the night with his 6th on the season. Cole Bishop would look to reignite a spark in the Express, as he’d drop the gloves and go toe to toe with Rivermen defenceman Taylor Curtis. But it’d be Langley finding the momentum off the fight. As they’d get a big penalty kill then score just 10 seconds after the powerplay had expired. Michael Munroe brought some life back to the Express. As he’d sneak home his 2nd of the game and 17th of the season to make it 6-5 Langley. But the Rivermen would cap the night off with Forlin’s 2nd of the game, Jordan Geike completing his hat trick and Kristis Retenais picking up his 1st on the season. As the Rivermen would take this one by a score of 9-5.
The Express return to action tomorrow Saturday, February 28th as they head out to George Preston Arena for a rematch with the Rivermen.
