Game Day! Coquitlam Express @ Chilliwack Chiefs (10/9/21)

Coming off of a victory in their season-opener against the Surrey Eagles last night, the Coquitlam Express are in Chilliwack tonight to take on the Chiefs! Puck drop is at 7:00pm.

The Express showed a lot of compete and resiliency in their season-opener as they erased multiple two-goal deficits on the way to a 7-4 victory. They found offensive contributions from all four lines and showcased their depth against the Eagles. Overall, the group did a fantastic job of maintaining puck possession and hemming their opponent in their own zone for large portions of time.

A trend that the Express will want to continue this evening is that of winning the special teams battle – they scored three powerplay goals and only surrendered one to the Eagles. The Express saw eight powerplay opportunities, largely due to their aforementioned ability to hem the Eagles in their own zone and get them chasing. The Express kept their feet moving and the Eagles were punished by it.

The Chiefs are coming off of a 7-5 loss to the Langley Rivermen in their season-opener and can be expected to be eager to right the ship with their home-opener tonight. A player to watch out for on the Chiefs is their first-line left winger, Frankie Carogioiello, who was in on four of five Chiefs goals as he chalked up three goals and a helper on the night.

The Express are running a nearly identical lineup tonight with one major change – Adam Manji will be getting his first start of the season. Manji played great in preseason action and the 6’4″ netminder will look to carry that over into the regular season!
