Game Day! Coquitlam Express @ Langley Rivermen (9/21/21)

Coming off of a victory over the Surrey Eagles in their preseason opener, the Coquitlam Express are in Langley tonight hoping to claim another win over the Rivermen. Puck drop is at 7:15PM.

The Express had some ups and downs in their first game, but a highlight for the youthful squad was their offensive output. Head coach, Brandon Shaw is hoping to see more of the same tonight,

“We have a few guys in the lineup from yesterday and I hope to see the offense again. I’m looking forward to seeing some of the young guys that are getting into the lineup tonight – it should be exciting to see their abilities in a true game situation.”

On the flip side of that coin, the Express saw some defensive blunders and almost saw the Eagles climb out of multiple holes yesterday afternoon. Shaw wants to see better attention to detail in the defensive end moving forward,

“I’m hoping to see a lot of compete and better details when defending. We’ve talked about making the Express hard to play against and that starts with work ethic and attention to detail.”

There will be lots of new faces in the lineup tonight, including Harry Meirowitz, the Brown University commit, and Old Westbury, New York product. Also in the lineup tonight is Tyler Kopff, a fellow Brown commit and former teammate of Meirowitz. Shaw is excited to see this duo in action,

“Harry and Tyler have played together before joining the Express and they have great chemistry on and off the ice. I’m sure tonight is going to be exciting for them to be back on the ice together and starting a new chapter in the Express jersey.”

The Express are clashing with a Rivermen squad who they have not seen in action since before the pandemic. This is also Langley’s first taste of preseason action in the 2021-22 campaign. It’s also worth noting that the Rivermen did not partake in the 2020-21 POD season, so this group could certainly have some rust to shake off early.

As for the Express, the remainder of their preseason schedule looks like this:

  • Sept. 22 vs Merritt – 7:00PM
  • Sept. 24 vs Surrey – 7:00PM
  • Sept. 29 vs Langley – 7:00PM
  • Oct. 1 @ Chilliwack – 6:00PM
