Game Day! Coquitlam Express @ Surrey Eagles (10/16/21)

Coming off of a loss in their home opener last night, the Coquitlam Express are looking to get back in the win column as they visit the Surrey Eagles tonight in what will be their second meeting of this young 2021-22 campaign. Puck drop is at 7:15pm!

These two clubs met in the Express’ season opener back on the 8th and the visiting Express took the game by a score of 7-4. The Express showcased a relentless attack and peppered the Eagles’ goalie with 42 shots on the night. Additionally, they were only shorthanded once and drew seven powerplays, three of which they capitalized on. Most importantly, they erased multiple two-goal deficits and showed resiliency. Since that game, the Express have dropped two straight contests and the Eagles are yet to find their first win of the season.

Last night, the Express showed a lot of life in front of over 1000 fans in their home opener, but they ultimately lost the game to the talented Chilliwack Chiefs. A large factor in this game was the Express’ lack of discipline – the home team was shorthanded six times, three of the calls came in the latter half of the third period while they were trailing.

Tonight’s lineup is virtually identical to last night’s, with the exception of Jackson Murphy-Johnson replacing Brody Juck on the back end and Jeremy Tremblay taking Jaeger Murdock’s place on the fourth line. Connor MacKenzie will once again get the nod for the Express between the pipes.

The Express need to replicate what they did in the aforementioned season opener against the Eagles. They need to stay disciplined, capitalize on their own powerplays, fire everything at the net, and show resiliency and compete if they do fall behind at any point.

This team has shown shades of great hockey, but have yet to put together a full 60 minutes. Tonight could be the night!
