Game Day! Coquitlam Express vs Powell River Kings (4/9/21)

It’s game day!

The Coquitlam Express are set to play their game tonight against the Powell River Kings – the second meeting of these two clubs. Puck drop is at 7:30 PM!

If this game is anything like their first clash, you are in for a serious treat!

The boys are coming off of a very solid victory last night against the Surrey Eagles and are looking to keep the train rolling, as they’ve now won two in a row in comeback fashion.

On the other side of the rink, the Kings are coming off of a 5-4 loss to those aforementioned Eagles and will surely be hungry tonight to get some redemption. Both of the King’s losses have come in back-and-forth, high-scoring affairs and one should expect a much tighter looking Kings team this evening.

The Kings have some firepower upfront and currently have two players tied for second in league scoring with seven points – Josh Kagan and Adamo Santia. Notably, Kagan has chalked up six goals through three games. Shutting these two down, although a difficult task, is absolutely necessary to ensure success tonight.

As exciting as the first game between these two teams was, the Express need to stay out of that boxing match style of hockey with the Kings and try to avoid another thirteen-goal game. Their early-season offensive prowess needs to be respected.

The Express should try to replicate the last 40 minutes of last night’s game against the Eagles – clog up the neutral zone, eliminate shooting & passing lanes, and capitalize on scoring chances.

Additionally, keeping the power play hot will be a huge contributor to this team’s success going forward. It looked well-oiled last night with crisp passes, good movement, and lots of traffic in front – the Express went 50% with the man advantage last night (2/4) and it helped open up the game in the second period.

Get off the tracks – a train is coming through!
