Game Day! Coquitlam Express vs Powell River Kings (5/3/21)

The Coquitlam Express are visiting the Powell River Kings in a late-night meeting at Scotia Barn. This marks these two clubs’ ninth meeting in this season and their first in the month of May. Puck drop is 8:00pm.

The Kings have won the last four meetings between these two teams, but they’ve barely just scraped out the last two – particularly their last contest, in which the Express controlled the majority of the game, but fell short 3-2. The Express battled through a lot of adversity in those two games, as the Kings were given a staggering 14 power play opportunities.

With just three games left in the season and a nine-game losing streak hanging over their heads, the Express will be hungry to find a much-needed victory. Their lineup looks nearly identical to the lineup that we saw last night with a few minor tweaks – notably, Jaden Little will get the nod between the pipes, as Dylan Kruss went down with an injury last game and isn’t ready to start.

This Express team has had strong 5-on-5 outings in their last few games, playing a sound defensive game while also generating a fair amount of time in their opponent’s zone. Additionally, their special teams play has been hugely improved in their last three games. The penalty kill has been lights out, killing off 13/14 and the power play has been creating a lot of solid scoring chances.

The Express have scored two or fewer goals in their last five games and one just gets the sense that they’re about to break through a wall and explode offensively. Ryan Tattle and Keeton Oakley have been quiet as of late, combining for just three points in their last four games – look to this pairing on the top line to have a big showing.

Get off the tracks – a train is coming through!
