Game Day! Coquitlam Express vs Surrey Eagles (11/26/21)

The Coquitlam Express are back in action tonight as they host the Surrey Eagles for Teddy Bear Toss Night at the Train Station! Puck drop is at 7:00pm.

The Express are coming off of a big 5-3 victory over the Cowichan Valley Capitals, in a game that had some early playoff implications – eight teams from each conference go to the playoffs and the Capitals are the odd team out with the Express currently holding down the last spot.

On the other side, the Eagles are coming off of a victory over the Capitals themselves and are currently on a two-game winning streak.

Princeton University commit, Jayden Sison has emerged massively over the past handful of games as he’s chalked up four goals and three helpers in last four games. He’s found great chemistry on a line with Arlo Merritt and Ray Hamlin. This has given the Express a lot of depth up front and has made it difficult on opposing defenders – the Express now have four fast lines that forecheck hard and can chip in offensively, defensively or both.

The Numbers

Express: 6-9-1 (14 points) – Eagles: 7-8-0 (14 points)

The Express are 4-1 in their last five contests while the Eagles are 3-2 in their last five – the Express’ only loss over this stretch was to the Eagles. Overall, these two teams have been very evenly matched throughout this 2021-22 campaign. The season series is currently knotted at 2-2 and the goals in the series are 18-17 in favour of the Eagles.

The Eagles are the owners of the BCHL’s second-worst powerplay, operating at 15.4%. On the other side of that coin, the Express have the league’s second-worst penalty kill, finding success only 67.7% of the time.

The Express have scored eight powerplay goals in their last five games and have seemingly turned a page in that department.
