Wichita’s Brett Hemingway Named Oakley CHL Player of the Week

TEMPE, AZ (October 24, 2011) –The Central Hockey League announced today that Wichita forward Brett Hemingway has been named the Oakley Central Hockey League Player of the Week for the period ending October 23, 2011.

In recognition of his achievement, Hemingway will receive a special gift from Oakley.  To learn more about all of Oakley’s products, visit www.oakley.com.

The Surrey, British Columbia native was a key catalyst on Wichita’s two shootout victories during opening weekend.  Hemingway finished the two-games with two goals and two helpers.

On opening night versus Rapid City, Hemingway scored the Thunder’s first goal of the season, just over two minutes into the game, and scored the game winning goal in the shootout giving his team a 3-2 victory.  The 6-1, 190-pound forward followed that up with the primary assists on Wichita’s second and third goals of the game seeing Saturday’s contest versus Allen tied at three goals apiece before the Thunder would once again prevail in a shootout.  The 2-0 start by the Thunder marks the first time the team has won its opening two games since the 2006-07 season.

The former University of New Hampshire star and Colorado Avalanche draft selection (2003) is playing in his fifth professional season and first in the CHL.  Last year, Hemingway played with the Belfast Giants (EIHL) where he averaged nearly a point a game (55 points in 56 games).
