Coquitlam Express forward Mateo Dixon, Victoria Grizzlies forward Connor Eddy and West Kelowna Warriors defenceman Tyson Jugnauth have been named the BCHL 3 Stars of the Week.

1st Star – Mateo Dixon (F) – Coquitlam Express

Dixon exploded in Coquitlam’s weekend set with the Chilliwack Chiefs, scoring a hat trick in both games to finish with six goals, including two game-winners.

The 19-year-old forward scored power-play goals late in the first period on Friday night and again early in the second to put the Express up 3-0. The Chiefs would battle back to make it a 5-4 game in the third, but Dixon’s hat trick marker midway through the frame held up as the game winner. He was named second star of the game as his teammate Ray Hamlin also recorded a hat trick in the contest.

The next night in a rematch with Chilliwack, the Toronto, Ont. product was all over the ice. After Coquitlam went down 3-1 early, Dixon scored to cut into the lead midway through the first period with another power-play tally. With the game tied 4-4 in the final frame, he scored with the man advantage yet again to give the Express the lead, then sealed it with an empty-netter in the final seconds to complete the hat trick. He was named first star of the game.

Since being acquired in a trade from the Nanaimo Clippers on Dec. 29, Dixon has eight goals in five games and nine in total on the year.

2nd Star – Connor Eddy (F) – Victoria Grizzlies

Eddy came into the week as the hottest player in the BCHL and that did not change with his performance over three games, leading the league in scoring over that stretch with 10 points on five goals and five assists.

On Tuesday night, the Victoria native scored four goals and added a pair of assists for a six-point night in his team’s 8-5 home triumph over the Surrey Eagles. Eddy opened the scoring early in the first, then after the Grizzlies went down 3-1, he scored two more to knot things up at three in the second. With the game tied 5-5 in the third, the 19-year-old potted his fourth of the game which held up as the game-winner. He was named first star of the game.

Eddy was back on the ice on Saturday and chipped in with two assists in Victoria’s 4-3 overtime win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals. He closed out his week on Sunday afternoon with yet another multi-point effort, this time a goal and an assist in his team’s 7-2 loss to the Nanaimo Clippers.

Eddy now has multiple points in five straight games and is also riding a seven-game point streak where he has 19 points. He has also scored 12 goals in his last seven contests. He is tied for eighth overall in league scoring with 41 points in 27 games.

This is the second straight week Eddy is one of the league’s weekly 3 Stars and the third time overall this year.

3rd Star – Tyson Jugnauth (D) – West Kelowna Warriors

Jugnauth led all defencemen in scoring last week with seven points in three games, including back-to-back contests where he recorded three assists.

The 17-year-old collected a power-play assist in the first period and two more helpers in the second en route to a 7-1 West Kelowna road win over the Merritt Centennials on Wednesday night. On Saturday, Jugnauth notched another assist with the man advantage and two more at even strength to help his team to a 7-4 home win against the Wenatchee Wild. He wrapped up his week on Sunday afternoon by registering another helper in the Warriors 5-3 loss to the Cranbrook Bucks.

Jugnauth is the league’s second leading scoring defenceman with 28 points in 32 games. His 26 assists are also second most among BCHL blueliners and are tied for third overall among all skaters in the league.
