Minister of Finance joins Express in standing up to Gender-Based Violence (VIDEO)

The Coquitlam Express Junior Hockey Club alongside BC’s Minister of Finance and MLA for Coquitlam-Maillardville Hon. Selina Robinson have stood up to Gender-Based Violence during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign which is supported by the United Nations.

Hon. Selina Robinson was joined on the ice with Coquitlam Express Assistant Captain Luke Vardy and Coquitlam Express Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Tali Campbell where all three filmed a video about Gender-Based Violence committing to treating themselves and others with respect, standing up when they see something and challenging other teams in BC Junior Hockey teams to do the same.

“I am so pleased to see our local Junior hockey club recognize the importance of teaching these young men more than hockey skills. Teaching them about respect and taking a stand against gender-based violence is helping these men be good men.” said Hon. Selina Robinson, Minister of Finance and MLA for Coquitlam-Maillardville
“The stats are staggering to read from UN Women, more than 1 in 3 women experience gender-based violence during their lifetime and more than 5 women or girls are killed every hour by someone in their own family. This is something as an organization with young men, we have to do our part in teaching them more than just hockey, we need to teach them about respect, how to treat others and that if you see abusive behaviour to make sure they know who to talk to, and how to do it.” said Tali Campbell, Express’ COO and GM.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign started on November 25th and will wrap up on December 10th.
