Playoff Game Day! Coquitlam Express @ Chilliwack Chiefs (4/10/22)

Well, here we are. Game seven between the Coquitlam Express and the Chilliwack Chiefs. Everyone loves a good underdog story and the Express have almost completed the storyline – one more win to go. Puck drop in Chilliwack is at 7:00pm.

The Statistics

The Express have forced a game seven with a win last night at the Train Station. The win was fueled by a pair of players who came into the contest pointless – Lucas Lundy and Christian MacDougall both chipped in their first points of the series in the form of goals.

Ryan Tattle is heating up at the perfect time as he’s up to three goals and two assists in his last three games. He’s always a play driver, but now his statistics are starting to reflect that.

Carter Woodside is coming off of a 38-save victory. Through six games, he’s holding a .924 SV% and he’s only allowed two goals against in 5/6 games. He’s been the backbone of this group and the team is playing with increased confidence because of it.

Keys to Victory

Push the pace and keep tight gaps on the Chiefs, particularly in the neutral zone. They’re very dangerous in transition and this is especially so on the bigger sheet of ice at the Chilliwack Coliseum.

Keep utilizing low-high plays and generate shots from the line with traffic in front. The Chiefs’ defenders struggle to contain those plays in their own end.

Remain disciplined and don’t get sucked into extracurriculars – the Chiefs love to get under the Express’ skin.

Maintain possession with short passes and don’t just dump the puck in – dump-and-chase doesn’t work particularly well on the bigger sheet and the Express can use their speed to exploit the additional open ice.

Silence their crowd with an early goal. Their crowd is a factor, so the Express need to take them out of it.

The Lineup

No changes to the lineup to report.

Luke Vardy remains suspended and Jayden Sison will slot in on defence in his absence. Sison was lights-out last night and made some superb defensive plays when it mattered most.

No surprise here – Woodside gets the net for the Express in this one as he looks to send his team to the second round.
