The Express defeated the Langley Rivermen 5-3.
First Period:
Langley got on the board early with Keeton Oakley scoring at 3:09.
The Express got a penalty shortly after as Colton Alexander was called for tripping at 3:58.
The Express began to rally and began generating lots of opportunities.
At 16:36 Drew Garzone found the puck outside the crease and snuck it through to tie the game.
Less than 30 seconds later Tyler Kopff on a breakaway gives the Express a 2-1 lead.
Second Period:
The Express carried the momentum over with Liam Tanner potting one a minute and 18 seconds into the period.
At 8:45 Kotai was called for tripping but the Express managed to kill it off.
At 10:56 Owen Kim was called for roughing in front of Brady Smith and Gallucci picks up a cross-checking minor himself to make it 4 on 4.
At 11:53 Evan Brown was called for hooking to make it 4 on 3.
The offsetting minors ran their course and then at 13:36 McHardy picked up a tripping minor, but the Express managed to stay 100% on the penalty kill all 3 minors this period.
Third Period:
The Express had an early opportunity as Walker Gelbard was called for a high-sticking double-minor.
Offsetting roughing minors would get called at 4:44 on Dixon and Valk.
At 8:23 Kopff hit Gundarah which sparked a fight between him and Owen Kim. Both received 5 + and game with Attew also getting a game misconduct. Langley came out of it with a power play on a roughing minor on Kopff.
At 11:27 Luke Munroe tapped home Langley’s 2nd of the game to cut the lead to 1.
Dixon at 14:58 gave the Express the 2-goal lead back after a beautiful passing play by Evan Brown and Mirko Buttazzoni.
Levyy would get a goal at 18:26 with the extra attacker, but Garzone would finish it off with an empty netter at 19:20.
Post Game Thoughts:
The Express played a hard game holding the significant majority of shots. Brady Smith shut the door in a 50/50 2nd period which allowed the Express to take a 2-goal lead and play confidently.
The power play for both teams was lacking as the Express went 0/3 and Langley went 0/5.
