Post Game Thoughts – Coquitlam Express vs. Surrey Eagles (11/25/22)

The Express fall 6-0 to the Surrey Eagles.

First Period:

The Express got off to a slow start allowing multiple high-danger scoring chances.

At 5:21 Oliver Gabrielson broke the scoring by beating Brady Smith and to give Surrey the lead.

At 12:29 Coco Armstrong took a hooking minor, but the Express were able to kill it off and keep the lead to 1.

One of the Eagles players found themselves on a breakaway, but on their follow through they ran into Smith. In the mess the puck went into the net and the call on the ice was a goal, but the officials got together and after deliberating, it was deemed no goal.

Unfortunately, not long after at 16:24 Ryden Evers extended the lead to 2.

Second Period:

This was a period of the penalty kill shining for both teams.

At 2:23 Moger was called for holding that the Express suppressed.

At 10:24 Savek Brar was caught for interference but the Express were unable to capitalize.

2 minutes later Cole Galata potted the Eagles’ third of the game with his 6th of the season.

Just over a minute later Brady Estabrook was called for boarding. This, again, was killed off.

16 minutes into the period the Eagles got a bench minor for too many men, and then at 17:33 Tate Taylor got a roughing minor to give the Express 27 seconds 5 on 3. The Eagles managed to escape the man disadvantages.

Third Period:

The Eagles were rolling with momentum out of the gate and 20 seconds in Ty Brassington scored to make it 4-0.

25 seconds later Gallucci was called for holding, but the Express manage to stay 100% on the penalty kill.

At 7:25 Ethan Riesterer got the Eagles’ 5th of the game from Josh Wessels and Jacob Bonkowski.

With less than a minute remaining Ethan Riesterer got his 2nd of the game to make the final score 6-0.

Post Game Thoughts:

Both teams were trading good scoring chances early, but it was the Eagles who managed to convert as the Express players were snake bitten.

The special teams battle boiled down to 0/4 power plays for both teams.

The Express players looked timid to shoot at times and would pass when in good position or would hesitate on making the necessary play.
