The Coquitlam Express visited the Powell River Kings at the Scotia Barn for a late one Monday night. Unfortunately, the Express didn’t get the results they were looking for and dropped their third consecutive contest.
The Express left the station in a hurry Sunday evening and controlled the majority of the first period. They found the twine twice, with Ryan Tattle getting helpers on his linemates Danny Pearson and Keeton Oakley’s tallies. Their line looked dangerous all night and Tattle would go on to finish the game with three assists and earn himself the Sharon Perry & Associates Player of the Game selection.
The second frame looked similar to the first, with three goals being scored, except it was the Express who were on their heels for a healthy portion of the period.
Heading into the third and final period, the teams were knotted at three and it was anyone’s game. Both teams came out to start the period very tentatively, respecting the offensive prowess of their opponents. The period was very tight-checking and physical with some heavy hits landing and injuries being handed out on both sides – Nic Porchetta left the game for the Kings and Christian MacDougall missed some action for the Express.
The Kings would eventually find the go-ahead marker with just over six minutes remaining in the hockey game and then go on to add an empty-netter to ice it.
On the bright side, we talked about shutting down Josh Kagan of the Kings in our pregame, and the Express did just that – he was very unnoticeable during the game and was ultimately held off of the score sheet.
Overall, the Express played a pretty strong game. It could have gone either way in the third period and unfortunately, the cards didn’t fall in their favour this evening.
Their next game comes Wednesday evening, as they host the Surrey Eagles and fight to get back into the win column.
