SEPT 23: KICKING OFF THE MAINLAND CUP WITH A BANG!

24 hours and we’re right back into it. The Express take to the ice tonight at 7 as they host their rivals from across the Fraser the Surrey Eagles. 8 times last season the two sides would do battle and the season series ended 6-2 in favor of the Eagles. Player to watch for the Eagles tonight will certainly be former member of the Express Liam Tanner, always exciting to see the competitive level rise when past teammates hit the ice.

The home opener didn’t go as planned but the Express look to take the positives from a tough game against Alberni and apply that to tonight’s effort. It won’t be easy as its one conference powerhouse to another. The Eagles played a great series in the conference finals last year, eventually going down to Alberni Valley in a blockbuster matchup and they sport a returning cast of talented players at all 3 areas. However, if there’s one thing that Coquitlam knows how to do, its to show up and show out when the rivalry games come knocking.

If the Express wish success tonight they’ll need to play to the strengths we saw much of through the preseason and into last night. They controlled the flow of play well and moved the puck with purpose to generate chances time and time again. The one thing they couldn’t muster enough of was finishing. With any early season there will always be nerves and it takes time to truly master the systems but they are right on the precipice. Michael Rubin netted the lone marker last night, who is gonna get the party started today?

Tickets are available for a Mainland Cup bash you won’t want to miss.

Or if you want to enjoy from the comfort of home then FloHockey will feature our broadcast.
