SPRUCE KINGS DOUBLE UP ON EXPRESS

The Express lost a pair of important Mainland Divisional games to the Spruce Kings in Prince George over the weekend.
The two game set got off to a quick start with each team potting 3 goals in the first 20 minutes. Will Cook, Brandon Morley and Marc Biega scored the 3 Express goals, but they all came in response to the Spruce Kings, who held a lead on 3 separate occasions.
Prince George would take a 4th lead in the game, one which they wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the weekend, when Shayne Morrisey scored his 1st of 2 goals in the 2nd frame. The Spruce Kings were ahead 5-3 after 40 minutes.
Chad Staley would double up the Express in the 3rd with P.G.'s 6th goal of the game. Philip Zielonka would bring it within 2 with 8:15 remaining, but that's as close as the Express would get. Cole Huggins turned aside 36 of 42 shots sent his way while Kirk Thompson made 32 saves for Prince George in the win.
Sunday afternoon featured the back end of the double-dip for BCHL fans in Prince George. It was an afternoon of quick starts for the Spruce Kings who opened the scoring just 25 seconds in. Sean Landrey buried his 4th goal of the year to put the Spruce Kings in from 1-0.
Prince George would hold the 1 goal advantage until Former Express forward Cam Lawson struck at 8:25 of the 2nd, extending the lead to 2-0. Then, just 1:29 later, Tyson Witala would make it a 3 goal deficit for the Express.
Philip Zielonka would put home his 15th of the year at 11:41, a marker that would turn out to be the only offence on the afternoon for the boys from Coquitlam.
Shayne Morrisey would add an insurance marker, the last of the game, as it would finish with a 4-1 Prince George victory.
The two wins this weekend by the Spruce Kings opened up a 5 point lead for Prince George on the Express for 3rd Place in the Mainland division.
The Express have two more games before the Christmas break Friday night in Langley. Then they will host the Powell River Kings on Saturday night at the Poirier Sports Centre.
