2013 Express Award Winners

The Express closed the books on the 2012/2013 with this year’s Awards Banquet at the Coquitlam Executive Plaza Hotel. In case you missed the final home game on March 8th, here are this year’s award winners:
 
M.V.P.– Express veteran goaltender, Cole Huggins, is the Express’ M.V.P. for 2013. Cole finished the year with an overall record of 22-23-1, with 3 shutouts and a goals against average of 3.41. Huggins was a leader from the back end playing in 51 of 56 games and 2,744 minutes. 1,000 minutes more than he played in 2011/2012. Cole is off to Division I University of Minnesota-Mankato.
 
Top Scorer– Despite a number of roster changes over the course of the season, Justin Georgeson was a mainstay in the Express lineup. His 14 goals and 25 assists earned him the 2013 Top Scorer Award. In addition to his scoring prowess, “Georgey” proved to be the most durable Express player as he was the only one to dress in all 56 regular season games.
 
Top Forward– This year’s Top Forward trophy was awarded to Adam Rossignol. Adam joined the Express from the Regina Pats of the WHL on January 10th. In just 17 games, Adam scored at a team best 1.3 points per game.
 
Top Defenseman– The 2013 award for Top Defenseman was awarded 1st year import, Marc Biega. Despite missing 17 games due to injury, Marc posted an impressive 24 points. The Express are looking forward to having the smooth skating defensemen on the point next season.
 
Rookie of the Year– Coquitlam native, Adam Rockwood, earned this year’s Rookie of the Year honors. The 17 year old Rockwood posted 6 goals and 20 assists over a season that saw him play with more confidence with more games under his belt. Rockwood was featured on TSN’s Top 10 with his double-OT shutout winning goal against the Merritt Centennials back in January.
 
Most Improved– Port Stanley, Ontario native, and 1st year Express forward, Will Cook, is the 2013 Most Improved player. Will had a strong finish a season which saw him score 8 points in 5 games to finish off a season where he totaled 17 points.
 
Unsung Hero– This season’s Unsung Hero award goes to 2nd year forward Mitch Fyffe. Mitch’s two-way play, penalty kill reliability and leadership made him an invaluable member of the 2012/2013 squad.
 
Most Popular – The 2013 Most Popular Player award goes to 4th year Express forward and team captain, Malcolm McKinney. Malcolm was a consummate leader for the Express despite missing significant time with a hamstring injury. His commitment to the team poured into his volunteer hours representing the team at various community events throughout the season. Malcolm will be suiting up for the University of Vermont next season where he is sure to continue his contributions both on and off the ice.
 
Community Involvement ­– Captain, Malcolm McKinney & Marc Biega are 2013 co-winners for their enthusiastic engagement with Express events throughout the Tri-Cities community.
 
Player of the Game – The Player of the Game award is given to the player who earns the most Stars of the Game nominations throughout the season. The 2013 recipient is goaltender, Cole Huggins.
 
Graduating Players– As tradition dictates, the Express also took time to welcome graduating players into the alumni family by presenting them with their 2012/2013 game jerseys. This year’s graduating class includes Alexander Kerfoot, Brandon Morley, Zachary Pryzbek, Michael Maciag, Cole Huggins, Bradley Ryan & Malcolm McKinney.
