Game Day! Coquitlam Express vs Chilliwack Chiefs (1/21/22)

The Coquitlam Express are set to host the visiting the Chilliwack Chiefs at the Train Station as they celebrate the BCHL’s 60th Anniversary! Puck drop is at 7:00pm

Tonight marks the second of three consecutive games against the Chiefs – the third will be played tomorrow night at the Train Station too. The Chiefs got the better of the Express in their last meeting 4-3, but the Express showed a lot of heart and almost clawed back from a four-goal deficit that was inflicted just 10 minutes into the hockey game. It was a physical and emotional contest that certainly set the table for spirited affairs in both tonight and tomorrow evening’s meetings.

The Express provided the Chiefs and their league-leading powerplay unit with five opportunities, and they potted two goals on the man advantage, which ended up being the difference. Disciplined play needs to be a major focus in tonight’s contest if the Express want to come away with a victory over this Chiefs team that is only three points back of 1st place in the Coastal Conference.

As we mentioned, it was an emotional game in these two teams’ last game and as a result, both Christian MacDougall and Carter Cochrane were issued suspensions and they will not be available for the Express tonight. Kahlil Fontana will also be out tonight with an injury. Blake Green, Jaeger Murdock, and Emmett McHardy will fill the voids in the lineup for the Express.

Carter Woodside gets the nod for the Express tonight as he searches for his first victory as a member of the Express.

The Express have proven to be a handful for the Chiefs in previous meetings and they could find that elusive victory here tonight with a well-executed gameplan. The Chiefs are owners of a very potent offence, but they don’t handle waves of pressure well and that’s a weakness that the Express can exploit with their speed and relentless forecheck. With all three of the aforementioned players out, this group loses a lot of speed and tenacity, so the bottom six, particularly the three players filling the voids, really need to step up and execute on that front.
