Coquitlam Express to Host Third Annual Autism Acceptance Game in Partnership with Canucks Autism Network

The Coquitlam Express, in collaboration with the Canucks Autism Network, proudly announces the upcoming third Annual Autism Acceptance Game to be held at the Train Station on February 19th. The game aims to promote autism acceptance and inclusivity in the community.

This year’s event promises to be a unique and sensory-friendly experience, featuring specially designed jerseys created by Lucas Gates, a talented individual on the autism spectrum. Gates’ artistic expression brings a distinctive touch to the jerseys, symbolizing the diversity and creativity within the autism community.

In addition to the exclusive jerseys, the Autism Acceptance Game will offer a range of accommodations to ensure a comfortable environment for individuals on the spectrum or with sensory sensitivities. These accommodations include a designated quiet room for anyone needing a break from the sensory-rich environment, sensory kits with noise-cancelling headphones, and staff who have been trained on how to best support fans on the autism spectrum..

“We are thrilled to partner with the Canucks Autism Network for the third consecutive year to host the Autism Acceptance Game,” said Tali Campbell, General Manager of the Coquitlam Express. “This event is an important initiative for our organization, as it allows us to foster a more inclusive environment within the hockey community while promoting acceptance and understanding of autism.”

The Autism Acceptance Game will also feature a post-game skate with the players, providing fans with the opportunity to interact with their favorite athletes in a relaxed setting. This unique experience emphasizes the importance of creating connections and building a sense of community.

“We’re honoured to support the Coquitlam Express in their efforts to create a more welcoming, inclusive and accessible game experience for fans on the autism spectrum,” said Canucks Autism Network CEO, Britt Andersen. “From having their staff trained, to seeing their players step up to volunteer, we have been impressed by the team’s level of commitment every step of the way.”

The Coquitlam Express encourages all fans, families, and community members to join in the celebration of autism acceptance and inclusivity for the third year.
