Express General Manager Tali Campbell has announced the club has acquired 2004-born goaltender Andrew Ness from the Penticton Vees in exchange for future considerations.
Ness has over 30 games of BCHL experience, with a career .915SV% and 2.22 GAA. This season he has split time between the Penticton Vees and Elmira Aviators in the NAHL.
Last season Ness was awarded the Wally Forslund Trophy, which is earned by the goaltending duo from the team with the lowest goals-against average.
“We are thrilled to welcome Andrew Ness to the Express organization,” said Campbell. “Andrew is a proven goalie in this league, as shown by his outstanding .915 save percentage and being part of the best goaltending duo last season. His experience and skill will be a great addition to our team as we continue to build a team to win the Fred Page Cup. Between Ness and (Eric) Young, we are incredibly confident in our goaltending situation.”
This campaign it has been the Eric Young show for Coquitlam, who has started all but one game for the Express. This move provides a much needed bolster to the goaltending situation and, should Ness play to his ability, turns Coquitlam’s netminders into perhaps the best duo in the league. Full credit to Young, not many goalies can perform at the level he achieves with the workload he has shouldered. It will be exciting to see what this pair does as they work together to defend Coquitlam’s crease.
