Express Alumni Honored with WCHA POW

A pair of Coquitlam Express graduates both turned in productive weekends for their respective NCAA teams and have been rewarded by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).

Cole Huggins, a freshman goalie at Minnesota State, was named rookie of the week after posting a 1-0 overtime win against Bowling Green where he made 33 saves and was named 2nd Star. Huggins also came on in relief the night before and made nine saves on nine shots. For the weekend, the Centennial, Colorado native posted a 1-0 record, 1.00 save percentage and 0.00 goals-against average. On the year, he carries a 2-0 record, .964 save percentage and 1.11 goals-against average.

In three BCHL seasons with Langley and Coquitlam, Huggins had a 50-41-3 record, 3.31 goals-against average and .908 save percentage.

Petan notched two goals and an assist and had the overtime winner as Michigan Tech swept a two-game set against Michigan State. The Delta, B.C. native leads the Huskies in points on the season with four goals and two assists.

In three seasons with the Express, Petan scored 54 goals and 74 assists for 128 points in 155 games. He had 38+50=88 in the 2011-12 season on his way to the Coastal Conference MVP award.
