Express keep on the winning track

The Coquitlam Express continued their run on the winning track as they were

5-4 overtime winners over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Saturday night.

The victory comes on the heels of a win over Division Rival Surrey Eagles at the Train Station on Friday night.

The Express crossed the Strait of Juan de Fuca and opened the scoring on a goal by Jackson Cressy that was set up by some hard work in front of the Bulldog net by the newest member of the Express Joshua Smith.

The teams ended the first period tied at one.

The Express opened the second period with their league leading 11th shorthanded goal as Captain Ryan Rosenthal was set up by Bo Pieper and John Saunders to give the Express a  brief 2-1 lead. Alberni Valley was able to even the score just 52-seconds later and another Alberni goal in the final minute of the period gave the Island team a one goal lead heading to the final frame.

The Express came out strong in the third tiring the score in less than 90-seconds on a goal from John Saunders, with assists going to Corey Mackin and Adam Rockwood.  The Train was able to take the lead when Joey Santucci scored on the power play after being set up by Canon Pieper and Zach Hodder.

Alberni tied the score midway through the third, and a strong performance by goaltender Pierce Dushenko was a key factor in sending the game into the extra period according to Express Head Coach Barry Wolff, "Pierce made several key saves at key times in the game".

In the end it was Captain Ryan Rosenthal who sealed the deal for the rail gang as he took the puck wide and drove the net to notch the game winning unassisted goal at 2:47 of the overtime session.

The Express open the month of December with a matinee date with the Nanaimo Clippers at the Frank Crane Arena, game time is 2pm.
