EXPRESS NAME TRAINING STAFF


The Coquitlam Express, proud members of the British Columbia Hockey League, has announced the hiring of Erin Berkowski as the team athletic therapist and medical trainer and Gerry Dean as the team?s equipment manager.

Berkowski acquired a Bachelor of Kinesiology as an Athletic Therapy Major from the University of Calgary in 2009 after spending 2002-2005 in the Sport Science Program at Douglas College ? New Westminster.

?The Express are a great organization and I am excited to begin this new opportunity with the team,? Berkowski said. ?The Express aim to be champions and I am eager to join them in their goal.?

Berkowski, while attending the University of Calgary was the student athletic therapist for Track & Field, Football, Hockey and wrestling. She also worked for the Calgary Royals of the Alberta Junior Hockey League during the 2009-2010 season.

Berkowski is currently an Athletic Therapist at Trailside Physio & Massage and looks forward to working with the Express.

?Erin has a tremendous medical background working in sports especially in Junior A Hockey and at the collegiate level,? said Rota. ?She is a great addition to our organization.?

Dean has a wealth of hockey experience as he most notably served at the Equipment Manager for the Vancouver Canucks from 1978-1994. He has also worked in the National Hockey League with the California Golden Seals from 1970-1974 and went with the franchise when the Seals re-located to Cleveland, Ohio and became the Barons from 1976-1978.

Dean, a Markham, Ontario native is currently employed by the City of Coquitlam and is also the Vancouver Canucks Alumni equipment manager is excited about his opportunity with the Express.

“We are extremely pleased to have Gerry join our staff,”  Darcy Rota said. “I have personally known Gerry for many years dating back to my playing days and with his knowledge and background of Coquitlam, it was a perfect fit for both Gerry and the Express.”

“The Express really compliment the city of Coquitlam and it brings another connection to the city that will be really accommodating for me,” stated Dean. “I am looking forward to the season starting and being part of the success.”
