The Langley Rivermen have defeated the Coquitlam Express 6-3 in BCHL action.
Coquitlam made their second trip of the season out to the lodge to face the Rivermen. With Coquitlam coming off a 5-3 win over the Chiefs. Langley would open the scoring 4:44 into the game as Tanner Winegard would beat Ryan Parker for his 4th of the season. Both teams would kill of penalties late in the opening frame with Coquitlam going 0/1 and Langley being 0/2 in the 1st period. Sending Langley up 1-0 heading in the intermission.
Coquitlam would come out searching for a tying goal and would get a powerplay at 8:32 of the 2nd, but would fail to convert. However the work on the man advantage would be rewarded as Luke Pfoh would score a goal in his 5th straight game just as the powerplay expired to get the Express on the board, and tie the game 1-1. Langley would find a response late in the middle frame. As Zachary Benyon would get his 13th on the season to re-instate the Rivermen lead. Sending Langley up 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.
The Rivermen would waste no time making it a 2 goal lead to start the 3rd. As Aaron Reierson would put Langley up 3-1 just 1:56 into the 3rd. Coquitlam would search for a response but would be shut down by Langley goaltender Dylan Johnson. Langley would then get a man advantage and convert their first and only powerplay of the night. As Makaio Van Tassel would make it a 4-1 lead. Langley would keep pouring it on as just 1:10 seconds later Nick Bianchi would put the Rivermen up 5-1. Coquitlam would finally find a response, as Tyler Russell’s 1st career BCHL would cut the Langley lead back down to 3. Shortly after that the Express would convert their lone powerplay of the night. As Will Distad would find his first career goal to pull the Express back to within 2. Coquitlam would push for a late comeback, but Ben Davis would seal the deal with an empty netter. As the Rivermen would hold on for a 6-3 win.
Coquitlam returns to action Friday, November 14th as they take on the Alberni Valley Bulldogs for the first time this season. With the Express set to celebrate the 2006 RBC Cup winning team.
