Post Game Thoughts – Coquitlam Express vs. Cranbrook Bucks (11/06/22)

The Express defeated the Cranbrook Bucks this afternoon in an empathic 6-1 victory.

First Period:

0:20 into the game and on the first shot of the game, Drew Garzone sniped his 1st of the season.

The train was rolling and at 2:46 Tyler Kopff found himself on the end of another goal and extending the lead to 2 early on.

Silich got a tripping penalty at 6:14 but it was killed off by the Bucks.

Rubin from Moger and Kopff made it 3-0 at 10:28 and deflating the Bucks as they fell more and more behind.

Liam Tanner was called for high-sticking which the Bucks converted on to bring the game back to within reach.

Manfre and Frias would both be called for late period penalties, but they would get killed off.

Second Period:

Alexander and Good received offsetting minors at 4:05 to  make it 4 on 4.

At 8:49 Kungle was called for roughing and put the Express on the power play. On this, Evan Brown at 10:33 would get his first of the season in his first game with the Express to make it 4-1.

More 4 on 4 action would occur at 12:49 with slashing and roughing minors.

Third Period:

Carsyn Good received another penalty at 0:44 which Buttazzoni made them pay for off a sneaker that got through traffic. 5-1.

Moger got his first of the season less than a minute later from a point shot making it 6-1.

Now here’s the rough stuff. These penalties were all killed off.

Fodchuck was called for boarding at 2:52.

Duarte and Brown got offsetting roughing minors at 3:46. Giesbrecht got called for high-sticking at 6:16. Duarte got 2 +10 for roughing at 8:53. Devlin got a high-sticking minor at 11:22. Brown was called for hooking at 15:24. Terwood got an interference penalty at 18:03.

Post Game Thoughts:

This was one of the most complete games of the season. The team played strong defensively and limited their shots by laying the body on the line and by forcing shots outside that often missed.

Offensively, the team was moving the puck well and not falling into the dump and chase trap. Quick movement off the puck and strong awareness was the perfect storm that led to 6 goals.
