Top Spot on the Line Friday Night Versus Langley

Oct. 10 – It’s so far so good if you’re a fan of the Coquitlam Express as the team’s 6-2-2 record puts them in position to overtake the Langley Rivermen. Friday provides the oppourtunity for the Express to take sole position of 1st Place in the Mainland Division. “We didn’t really put a number on where we wanted to be, our goal is to get better every day, and we’ve done that”, says Head Coach Barry Wolff.

Aside from the record, it’s HOW the Express are winning games that has fans excited this season. The team has scored at least four goals in each of the 10 games played this year including nine goal outputs versus Alberni Valley and Chilliwack. Three of the top five point getters in the entire BCHL wear Coquitlam colours; Adam Rockwood is in first with 19 points, Corey Mackin (16) and Ryan Rosenthal (15) sit in third and fifth respectively. Having skilled players up and down his lineup is something that Wolff says gives his team a big advantage, “They are able to score goals and make plays, a lot of teams can’t make those plays they just don’t have the personnel” – Wolff.

The battle for First Place in the division certainly provides a nice story line for Friday night’s game at the PSLC, but it’s something the team as a whole is not concerned about quite yet. “We’re not focusing on any of that, that’s going to take care of itself down the road and we’re taking it one game at a time”, says the Wolff.

This week’s Friday Fan Festival is courtesy of PriceSmart Foods in Pinetree Village. Be sure to get to the rink early to grab a hot dog and test your speed at the hockey shot contest when you show your ticket to the game. Volunteers from A Helping Hand will also be on location, collecting jacket donations for the homeless in Metro Vancouver.
