MACKIN STREAKING FOR FERRIS STATE

With points in 10 of his last 11 games, Coquitlam Express alum Corey Mackin is doing in the NCAA just what he did in the BCHL – creating offence.

Last weekend, Mackin scored three goals in a pair of Ferris State wins over visiting Alaska-Anchorage and earned the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) offensive player of the week award. The Philadelphia product scored his team’s first goal in a 2-1 win Friday and followed that with a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-0 victory the next night.

Mackin now has 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points in 32 games this season. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound playmaker sits second on the team in scoring and has helped the Bulldogs remain in the thick of the race for playoff position; Ferris State is currently tied with Bowling Green in the WCHA standings.

Over two seasons with the Express, Mackin registered 74 goals and 80 assists for 154 points in 115 career BCHL games. He was a member of the 2014 Fred Page Cup-winning Express team and returned the next season to lead the BCHL in goals and points as he posted 50-54-104 to claim the Brett Hull Trophy as the league’s top scorer.
