Game Day! Coquitlam Express vs Surrey Eagles (9/24/21)

The Coquitlam Express are set to host the Surrey Eagles in what will be their fourth preseason tilt in this 2021-22 campaign! The home team will be looking to make it four straight wins and their second consecutive on home ice. Puck drop is at 7:00PM.

The Express have scored five or more goals in each of their three games so far and they’re looking to keep that streak alive tonight. What will certainly help that cause, is the fact that Ryan Tattle and Arlo Merritt will be skating alongside each other again this evening – the pair combined for five points in Wednesday’s game against the Merritt Centennials. Head coach, Brandon Shaw has liked what he’s seen from the duo,

“Merritt and Tattle have been good together. They are both experienced guys and they take ownership of how we want to play. We’re all still new to each other, but I appreciate their active effort and leadership when it comes to paying attention to the details that we need.”

The Eagles have started this preseason with two losses, one of which was at the hands of the Express. They have allowed nine goals over the two contests, so one might expect a tighter defensive effort from the Eagles this evening.

Connor MacKenzie is expected to get the nod between the pipes for the Express. He is undefeated on the season and has been busy, facing a collective 72 shots in the two games and posting a .930 SV%. Backing him up will be Brandon Naidu, the Burnaby product. Shaw has liked MacKenzie’s game so far,

“Mack has shown well. He battles hard and is learning the BCHL style. We are still working, as the focus here is to continue to get better everyday.”

The Express will have two more preseason games to prepare for the regular season in October. The remainder of the preseason schedule looks like this:

  • Sept. 29 vs Langley – 7:00PM
  • Oct. 1 @ Chilliwack – 6:00PM
