Postgame Thoughts – Coquitlam Express vs Surrey Eagles (9/24/21)

The Coquitlam Express hosted the Surrey Eagles on Friday night in what was an extremely entertaining game! It was back-and-forth action all night long and it took 65 minutes of play and four shootout rounds to solve it. 4-3 Express.

These two teams played a very even game of hockey and it didn’t open up until the second period. James Bohn was the lone-scorer of the first period with an absolute snipe that destroyed Eagles’ goalie, Max Prazma’s water bottle. Five of the game’s six goals in regulation came in the second and third periods. The highlight of the game came in the third period with the Express down by a goal – Matthew Campbell went end-to-end and ripped one past Prazma in a fantastic individual effort.

Additionally, the Express battled through a seemingly endless parade to the penalty box, holding the Eagles to only one conversion on six opportunities. The Express were solid on the penalty kill, as they managed to keep the Eagles primarily to the perimeter and did not let their big guns get too many chances.

In the shootout, the tandem of Christian MacDougall and Connor MacKenzie got the job done for the home team. MacDougall was calm, cool, and collected on his attempt, making a glove-side snipe look like a Sunday stroll in the park. At the other end, MacKenzie turned away every shot he faced in the shootout.

The Express get a bit of a break after a busy week of hockey and won’t be back until Wednesday. The remainder of their preseason schedule looks like this:

  • Sept. 29 vs Langley – 7:00PM
  • Oct. 1 @ Chilliwack – 6:00PM
