Best of 7. Express 1 – Chiefs 4

A heated rivalry got its rematch as the Shaw BCHL Playoffs kicked off tonight in Coquitlam with the Chilliwack Chiefs coming to town for game 1 in the train station. The game started off hot with end to end action and a ton of penalties as 10 minutes of penalties were handed out within the first 15 minutes of the game, however, the score would stay at 0 after 20 minutes of play.

The second period started off hotter than the first as just 10 seconds into the period the Chiefs scored the opening goal of the game off the stick of Mateo Mrsic to make it 1-0.

12 minutes later the Chiefs doubled their lead to two with Tim Delay’s first of the playoffs and just 7 minutes later they added their third goal of the game to extend their lead to 3-0 after 40 minutes.

There must have been an encouraging locker room talk on the Express’ side as Evan Brown found the back of the net for the team 2 minutes and 35 seconds into the third.

That would be as close as the Express would come as they would battle through the final 18 minutes, giving up an empty net goal with 1 minute and 18 seconds to go. The Chiefs took game 1 by a score of 4-1.

The Coquitlam Express will return to the Train Station for the second game of the first round of the playoffs against the Chilliwack Chiefs on Saturday April 1st.
