EXPRESS ALUMNI ENG COMMITS TO SFU

July 19, 2013 — Burnaby, B.C. — The Simon Fraser University Men’s Ice Hockey team is pleased to announce that North Vancouver’s Jared Eng has committed to join the team for the 2013/14 season.

Eng is an offensive defenceman who played two seasons with the Sacred Heart University NCAA D1 program in Connecticut, and will be transferring to SFU in the fall.

The defenceman put up 16 points in 50 games with Sacred Heart, but is also well-known in the BC Junior ranks after impressing scouts with strong seasons with the Victoria Grizzlies and Coquitlam Express, notching 47 points in 106 BCHL games prior to making the jump to the NCAA.

“I am excited to be coming to SFU because it is growing hockey program that has already made huge accomplishments,” says Eng. “Playing closer to home is nice as well but playing for a successful team is important to me. SFU has many good players and I am excited to be apart of the SFU tradition.” Eng describes himself as puck-moving and two-way defenceman who also likes to jump into the play.

“Jared is going to be without a doubt one of the top players in the BCIHL,” says SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta. “Being an NCAA D1 transfer, we expect him to a dominant force on the ice and in the room. Adding someone of this calibre to any team is fantastic, we are fortunate to have Jared suit up in an SFU jersey but he will be held to a high standard and we are confident that we will live up to the challenge.”

Eng is the ninth player to commit to SFU for the 2013/14 season. Further announcements will be made in the coming weeks. For more information or to stay up to date on the latest recruits, please visit
