EXPRESS DERAIL RIVERMEN IN BACK TO BACK GAMES

Dec. 28 – The Express played their first game after the Holiday Break Saturday night in Langley.  Langley opened up the scoring at 2:07 of the first period with a goal from Gage Torrel.  The Express answered back just over 8 mins later with a power play goal scored by defenseman, Marc Biega, assisted by Corey Mackin and Zach Hodder.  The Express’ second goal came just a couple minutes later when Forward, Canon Pieper got a breakaway during a penalty kill and scored  shorthanded on Langley netminder, Lyndon Stanwood. 

 

The Express continued full steam ahead during the second period with three more goals.  Defenseman, Marc Biega, scored his second of the night on the Power Play at 9:54, assisted by Rockwood and Marks.  This was followed by Langley’s sole goal of the second scored by Darien Craighead, assisted by Marcus Vela.  Express Forward, Joey Santucci, scored the Express’ 4th goal and second of the period just a couple minutes later assisted by Adam Rockwood and Marc Biega.  This goal sparked the increasing friction between the two teams landing 2 Express and 3 Rivermen players in the penalty box.  Friction continued to build however the Express knocked their 5th goal and 3rd of the period into the Rivermen net on a goal scored by Canon Pieper, his second of the night, assisted by Bo Pieper and Ryan Rosenthal at 14:48 of the second.

 

The Rivermen came out with determination in the 3rd period and evened up the score with 3 more goals ending regulation time in a tie.

 

The Express came out the victors however when Marc Biega, scoring his third goal of the game, got one passed Riverman goalie, Brock Crossthwaite at 3:44 of the 1st overtime period assisted by Adam Rockwood and Cameron Marks.

 

Dec. 29 – The Express came out hard against the Langley Rivermen at home on Sunday following a contentious match the evening prior on Langley’s home ice.  Express Defenseman, Marc Biega, opened up the scoring on a powerplay goal scored at 8:15 of the first period, assisted by Adam Rockwood and Joey Santucci.  Just over 4 minutes later, Express Captain, Ryan Rosenthal, scored the second goal of the game with another powerplay goal assisted by Cameron Marks and Bo Pieper.

 

The Rivermen opened up the second period scoring with a goal at 3:37 from Will Cook, assisted by Tanner Johnson.  This was answered just over a minute later by Biega with his second goal of the game at 4:39 of the second period assisted by Rockwood and Mackin.  The Rivermen would score one more in the second on the powerplay but were shutdown by the hard working Express Roster and Netminder, Pierce Dushenko.  The game ended in a 3-2 victory for the Express closing the regular season series against Langley on back to back wins.

 

The Express play their next home game on Saturday, January 4th when they host the Cowichan Capitals.  This is the Express’ Canuck Alumni event so you don’t want to miss it.  Over 21 Canuck Alumni are confirmed to attend and will be signing autographs during the 1st intermission.  There will be a Tailgate party starting at 5:30pm with a tasty pre-game bbq with proceeds going towards the Terry Fox Foundation.  Tickets are selling fast so make sure to get yours today!!  Tickets are available by contacting the Express Office at 604-936-4625.
