Express Hammer Smokies

It was another entertaining Sunday Family Funday at the Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex on January 19^th. The Express were able to score early and often on route to a 7-2 victory over the Trail Smoke Eaters.

The visiting Smoke Eaters were able to open the game’s scoring at 2:13 on Jeremy McNeil’s 1^st career BCHL goal. Corey Mackin responded less than 90 seconds later with his 21^st of the season. Canon Pieper put the Express ahead 2-1 with his 6^th goal in the last 4 games. Coquitlam finished the period ahead 15 to 11 in shots.

After some back and forth to start the 2^nd Period, Zach Hodder was able to extend the Express lead to 3-1. Marc Biega tallied his 14^th of the season at the 14:45 of the frame. The goal put Biega in the league lead for goals scored by a defensemen, 1 ahead of Chilliwack’s Carter Cochrane. Daniell Lange would round out the period’s scoring, making it 5-1 for the home side.

Both teams exchanged powerplay markers to open the 3^rd Period. Mackin notched his 2^nd of the game and 22^nd of the season on the man advantage at 10:47. Coquitlam native, Joey Santucci, rounded out the scoring at 15:28 of the 3^rd. Gordie Defiel’s 28 saves earned him his 16^th win of the season.
