EXPRESS SMOKE TRAIL

The Express picked up their third win in four games with a 7-1 defeat of the Trail Smoke Eaters on Saturday night in Coquitlam. It was the second win of the season over the Smokies, clinching the season series for the Express.

With an early 4 minute powerplay the Express offence got off to a quick start. Adam Rockwood worked the puck to Justin Georgeson in the corner who snapped a pass through the crease to a pinching Michael Maciag who tipped home his 2nd goal of the season past Lyndon Stanwood.

Less than 4 minutes later, Philip Zeilonka would extend his point streak to 14 games. Mark Biega's shot from the point bounced off the end boards and into the goal crease where Zielonka poked it home for his 13th goal of the season. 35 seconds later the Express struck again. Justin Georgeson snapped a wrist shot that deflected off a Trail defender and past Stanwood. For Georgeson it was his 1st goal in 12 games.

The Express were due for another powerplay opportunity late in the 1st Period when Brandon Morley was high sticked in the neutral zone. However,  Travis Stephens picked up a loose puck in leiu of the delayed penalty, carried the puck into the Trail zone and snapped a wrist shot low to the stick side for his first goal as an Express at 17:39.

The 2nd Period saw the Express generate more offence when Mitch Nardi scored his 4th goal of the year, putting Coquitlam ahead 5-0.

Rookie goaltender, Daniel Urbani, was working on a 2nd consective shutout of the Smokies until former Express player, Brayden Pears, snapped home a powerplay goal with less than 7 minutes to go.
 
Stephens would re-estabilish the 5 goal lead with his 2nd of the game, less than 25 seconds later. John Siemer rounded out the scoring for the Express with 1:41 to go as he poked home a loose puck sitting in the crease.

Notes

The Express have a critical portion of the schedule on deck with four games on the road vs. Mainland Division opponents starting Wednesday in Chilliwack. Then the Express hit the road for a pair of games next weekend in Prince George. The fourth game will be Friday December 14th in Langley.

The Express are on home ice December 15th, against the Powell River Kings. Puck drop goes at 7pm and fans can expect a visit from a jolly fellow. The 15th will be the last home game before the BCHL's Christmas Break.
