The Express got their weekend off to a winning start as they downed the Langley Rivermen in exciting fashion.
It was DBM Automotive November Player of the Month, Marc Biega, completing the hat trick scoring at 3:44 of Overtime to seal the win. Adam Rockwood and Cameron Marks drew the assists.
The Express held a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes as Biega scored his first on the power play and Canon Pieper added a shorthanded marker just two and a half minutes later.
Second period goals from Biega, Pieper and Joey Santucci saw the Express leading 5-2 heading into the final period but three third period Langley goals had the teams head to overtime, setting the stage for Biega's heroics.
Goaltender Gordie Defiel went the entire way stopping 28 of 33 shots to record the win.
The Coquitlam Express ended 2013 in style as they completed a weekend sweep of the Mainland Division leading Langley Rivermen on Sunday.
It was Marc Biega leading the way for the second straight game as the Express defenceman had a pair of goals, including the game winner as the Express were 3-2 winners over the Rivermen for the second game in a row.
The Express jumped out to a 2-0 lead after just 12 minutes of play on a pair of power play goals from Captain Ryan Rosenthal and Fortis BC Energy Player of the game Marc Biega.
The second period saw a pair of Langley goals sandwiched around Biega's eventual game winner, scored at 4:39 from the games Second star Adam Rockwood and Corey Mackin.
The goal came just 27 seconds after Langley's Brendan Gulka was assessed a Match Penalty and was ejected from the game.
Goaltender Pierce Dushenko stopped 19 of 21 shots in recording the victory.
The Express kick off the new year when they host the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Saturday January 4, 2014. It should be one of the best crowds of the year, with Vancouver Canuck Alumni night at the Train Station at the PSLC and plenty of other pre-game family fun.
